Dyslexia-Friendly Schools
EDM number 98 in 1999-00, proposed by Martin Caton on 25/11/1999.
That this House congratulates the council, children, parents, teachers, SEN advisors and voluntary sector partners in the City and County of Swansea for the success of their Dyslexia-Friendly Schools strategy featured as a model of good practice in the Dyslexia-Friendly Schools Pack recently published by the British Dyslexia Association in conjunction with the Department of Education and Employment; recognises that Swansea's achievement in the past two years is the result of a creative partnership between professionals, parents, volunteers and children which helps local schools reach Dyslexia-Friendly Status through the application of its good practice guide; notes that the skills and strategies employed in Swansea which enable dyslexic children to learn also enhance the learning of other children with a variety of needs; and urges local education authorities throughout the United Kingdom to promote dyslexia friendly education.
