Protection Of Children On The Internet

EDM number 566 in 2000-01, proposed by Paul Burstow on 09/04/2001.

That this House welcomes the establishment by the Home Secretary of the Internet task force to discuss and implement a strategy to protect children on the internet, especially from paedophiles; calls on internet service providers and companies providing chat services to take all possible steps to prevent paedophiles gaining access to children on chatlines; recommends an urgent review of existing legislation to prevent paedophiles who use the internet to lure children into sexual activity from escaping punishment; and urges the Government and industry to invest in, and work with children's charities on, a co-ordinated campaign to make parents and children aware of how they can use internet more safely.
