In-House Provision Of Local Authority Services

EDM number 1377 in 2001-02, proposed by Stephen Hepburn on 23/05/2002.

That this House welcomes the publication, Building a Future for Direct Services - The New Millennium Service Provider, a comprehensive study into the advantages of local authority in-house provision; also places great emphasis on the advantages of in-house provision such as the retention of public resources within the public sector, promotion of fair employment practices and the comparative safety record of local government against that of the private sector; and notes that the publication requests no preferential treatment for direct labour, just an honest assessment of the advantages of in-house provision and a level playing-field during appraisals.

This motion has been signed by a total of 53 MPs.
