Medals For Suez

EDM number 153 in 2001-02, proposed by Paul Burstow on 16/07/2001.

That this House notes that this year will see the 50th anniversary of the start of the emergency in the Suez Canal zone; recognises that though 54 servicemen were killed in the emergency by enemy action and over 300 died through terrorism, accident and disease, no medal has been issued to honour veterans; and calls upon the Ministry of Defence formally to review the request of veterans from the emergency to receive either a Suez Campaign Medal or the General Service Medal 1918 to 1962 with its own Suez Emergency clasp, in recognition of those who served and died for their country.

This motion has been signed by a total of 45 MPs.
