UK Pig Farmers

EDM number 1749 in 2001-02, proposed by George Howarth on 15/10/2002.

That this House expresses its strong concern at the plight of pig farmers affected by the ban on the use of pigswill; notes that many of those concerned have invested in expensive pigswill preparation plants and equipment in order to comply with the relevant regulations; further notes the precedents created for decommissioning in the fishing and mink industries; and calls on the Government to institute a compensation scheme for pig farmers equivalent to those for fishing vessel owners and mink farmers.
