Safer Car Fronts For Pedestrians And Cyclists
EDM number 253 in 2001-02, proposed by Peter Bottomley on 17/10/2001.
That this House notes that 590 pedestrians were killed and 7,161 seriously injured in crashes involving cars in 2000; endorses the view in 'Tomorrow's Roads - safer for everyone' that more must be done to reduce these alarming figures; believes the negotiated agreement proposed by the European Commission and the European car industry will fail to deliver the reduction of 20 per cent. of deaths and serious injuries identified in the road safety strategy; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to ensure all new types of car pass the four tougher EEVC tests developed for legislation by British and European researchers as soon as possible or by the year 2008 at the latest.
