Rnid,bt Typetalk Partnership

EDM number 76 in 2001-02, proposed by Louise Ellman on 03/07/2001.

That this House welcomes the launch of an exciting new telephone service, BT TextDirect, by RNID Typetalk and BT; applauds their successful partnership, which has produced BT TextDirect, an innovative development of the only national telephone relay service that enables textphone users to communicate with hearing people anywhere in the world; notes that BT TextDirect will benefit around half a million people who cannot use an ordinary telephone, even with amplification; further notes that BT TextDirect will improve access through the new direct-dial facility, reducing the time originally involved in connecting through a remote operator; and encourages all honourable Members to signal their support for this important development by publicising in their correspondence and newspaper surgery notices their willingness to receive BT TextDirect calls or phone deaf and hard of hearing constituents with textphones using the BT TextDirect five-digit prefix of 18002 before the person's telephone number.

This motion has been signed by a total of 58 MPs.
