Appointment Of Archbishop Of Canterbury

EDM number 765 in 2001-02, proposed by John Pugh on 30/01/2002.

That this House notes the intended resignation of the Archbishop of Canterbury and the controversy surrounding political appointments; regrets that the Prime Minister has to be involved in the appointment of the spiritual leader of the Anglican community; and calls for such legislation as is necessary to make sure that politicians are not by virtue of office involved in the appointment of church leaders.

This motion has been signed by a total of 20 MPs.
