Sickle Cell

That this House notes that 4th July is Sickle Cell Awareness Day; further notes that sickle cell disease affects particularly Afro-Caribbean people, as well as people from parts of Europe, Asia and the Middle East; congratulates Action Research for funding pioneering projects into this painful and distressing illness; and calls on the Government to heighten awareness of sickle cell as well as to enable equal access to screening programmes and quality medical assistance.
