PERFORMANCE AND INNOVATION UNIT'S RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY

EDM number 918 in 2001-02, proposed by Joan Walley on 01/03/2002.

That this House warmly welcomes the emphasis the Performance and Innovation Unit has put on energy efficiency as central to the UK's future energy policy; agrees with the Report that 'step changes in energy efficiency and vehicle efficiency are needed'; is delighted that a new target for increasing energy efficiency has been recommended at 20 per cent. by 2010 and another 20 per cent. by 2020; believes that meeting this target holds out the prospect of vast improvements to UK homes and of cheaper consumer bills; and urges the Government to ensure that these targets are in fact delivered by adopting the full range of cost effective energy efficiency measures in the Energy Saving Trust's PIU submission, 'Towards an Energy Efficiency Strategy for Households to 2020'.

This motion has been signed by a total of 67 MPs.
