Landmines In The Congos
EDM number 1233 in 2002-03, proposed by Tony Colman on 16/05/2003.
That this House notes with concern that an unknown number of anti-personnel landmines still remain in the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighbouring Republic of Congo, some dating back to the 1970s, some much more recent; also notes the statement issued at the end of the May conference in Brazzaville which called for support from the international community to tackle the landmine problem; commends the work of the UN, the Mines Action Group, the Halo Trust and others for their hard work in clearing anti-personnel mines in post-conflict regions; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to give additional support to landmine clearance initiatives in this areas.
