Commission On The Future Of Alcohol Services

EDM number 1497 in 2002-03, proposed by Kelvin Hopkins on 01/07/2003.

That this House welcomes the launch on 30th June of the Report of the Commission on the Future of Alcohol Services, published by Alcohol Concern; is gravely concerned that there are in Britain 1.5 million harmful drinkers and 8.8 million hazardous drinkers; is concerned too that Britain's 27,000 general practitioners see an average 360 problem drinkers in their surgeries each year; and urges the Government both to take full account of the Commission's recommendations, and to take effective steps to curb the alarming and rising level of harmful alcohol consumption in Britain, especially amongst the young.

This motion has been signed by a total of 55 MPs.
