Us International Aid

EDM number 1573 in 2002-03, proposed by Paul Marsden on 10/07/2003.

That this House congratulates the US President for pledging the biggest increase in international aid since President Truman; welcomes the additional $5 billion over the next three years that has been promised and without reservation welcomes this extra funding particularly to combat AIDS, which will save lives especially in Africa; notes that this extra aid will raise the percentage of US national wealth spent on international aid from 0.1 per cent. to 0.15 per cent. and urges the US Government to raise the aid even further to the United Nations target of 0.7 per cent to end the daily deaths of 30,000 children around the world due to lack of clean water, food and basic medicines.

This motion has been signed by a total of 37 MPs.
