Human Rights Abuses Of Sri Lankan Muslims
EDM number 1822 in 2002-03, proposed by Barry Gardiner on 27/10/2003.
That this House expresses its grave concern at the plight of the 100,000 internal refugees from the Muslim community in the north and eastern provinces of Sri Lanka and the failure by both the Sinhalese army and the LTTE to defend and respect the rights of the Muslim community; and urges the Sri Lankan Government to facilitate an international human rights monitoring commission to establish a presence in the area to investigate human rights abuses as a way of rebuilding confidence and security.
