Extension Of Eu-Zimbabwe Sanctions
EDM number 574 in 2002-03, proposed by David Amess on 23/01/2003.
That this House calls on the Government to do all it can to put pressure on the French Government to withdraw its invitation to Robert Mugabe to attend the Franco-African Summit in February; notes that France did not recognise the March 2002 presidential election in Zimbabwe as free and fair and that a meeting with Robert Mugabe would represent a backsliding from their previous position and grant him the recognition of legitimacy he longs for; and further notes that if the beleaguered Zimbabwean people are genuinely to be helped then the EU sanctions must be extended for another year.
