World Leprosy Week

EDM number 611 in 2002-03, proposed by Bob Russell on 29/01/2003.

That this House congratulates all involved in promoting World Leprosy Week from 20th to 26th January and also the 50th annual World Leprosy Day on 26th January; in particular records its appreciation to those who work for LEPRA, the British Leprosy Relief Association which cares for and cures people of leprosy around the world; notes that more than 750,000 new patients, 100,000 of them children, are diagnosed each year; acknowledges that LEPRA relies on its dedicated volunteers in raising funds in order to finance its activities; and wishes all concerned continuing success with the charity's caring work and efforts to eliminate the disease.
