Ilo Convention 155: Occupational Safety And Health

EDM number 663 in 2002-03, proposed by Kelvin Hopkins on 05/02/2003.

That this House notes the adoption by the International Labour Organisation in 2002 of a protocol to the Occupational Safety and Health Convention 1981 (Convention 155) and a Recommendation (194) listing occupational diseases; further notes that the aim of the protocol is to strengthen recording and notification procedures for occupational accidents and occupational diseases with the aim of identifying their causes and establishing preventive measures; believes that the adoption of this protocol by the UK Government will assist in assessing the scale and reducing the incidence of occupational injuries and illnesses in the UK; recognises that the International Labour Organisation is a tripartite body representing governments, employers and trade unions across the world; and calls upon the Government to join the 38 countries (including eight other member states of the European Union) that have ratified ILO Convention 155 over the last 22 years.

This motion has been signed by a total of 53 MPs.
