Landmark Sikh Centre In Bedford
EDM number 677 in 2002-03, proposed by Patrick Hall on 06/02/2003.
That this House recognises the significant contribution of the Sikh community to the United Kingdom; congratulates and supports its aspirations for a monumental landmark to be created in Bedford which will highlight the richness of Sikh architecture and culture and bring a much needed boost to the local and regional economy; notes that the landmark centre will signify the strong historical and moral links the Sikh community has with the United Kingdom and will highlight the value with which it is regarded; further notes that this monument will truly bring to light the cultural diversity of multi-faith Britain today and welcomes that it will be a catalyst for social cohesion and interaction as a result of the community facilities which will be available for all to use; commends the considerable voluntary assistance to this project from a range of sources; further welcomes and acknowledges the noteworthy financial donations and pledges and grant allocations by various individuals and bodies; and very much hopes that the construction of the centre can proceed without undue delay.
