That this House welcomes RSI Awareness Day on 28th February; notes that the total cost of RSI to the country is an estimated ú13 billion per year with some 500,000 workers in the United Kingdom currently affected with RSI; is concerned that repetitive strain injury, text message injury and playstation thumb may cause damage to the fingers of our nation's children; further notes that despite the costs to the economy only ú97,000 has been invested in research into repetitive strain injury and that none has been allocated to looking at the long-term effects on children; further notes that increasing numbers of children are using gaming consoles, mobile phones and personal computers; and calls upon the Government to commission research into the possible long-term damage caused by repetitive strain injury and text message injury to children and to provide more information to parents and guardians on the effects that repetitive strain injury can have.
