Indian Democracy

EDM number 1300 in 2003-04, proposed by Michael Ancram on 27/05/2004.

That this House welcomes the appointment of Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister of India and notes that India now has a Sikh prime minister, Muslim president, a Hindu external affairs minister and a Christian leader of its largest party; and believes that this is a powerful signal of India's commitment to a secular democracy based on respect for human rights in a multi-faith, multi-ethnic society.

This motion has been signed by a total of 73 MPs.
