Junior World Gliding Championships

EDM number 1472 in 2003-04, proposed by Lembit Opik on 07/07/2004.

That this House notes that the UK will host the Junior World Gliding Championships for the first time in 50 years at Husbands Bosworth Leicestershire in August 2005; welcomes world gliding teams from across the globe; recognises that the UK has been one of the world's most successful gliding nations in recent years; that the British Team has produced seven World Champions in the last 12 World Championships and been placed in the top three on 14 separate occasions; eagerly anticipates the Junior Pre-World Competition at Husbands Bosworth in August followed by the UK National Championships; recognises the ever improving levels of interest from younger pilots taking up the sport with better opportunities for competition training; and acknowledges this outstanding opportunity to bring British Gliding forward at a recreational club level and at competition level at all ages.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs.
