Re-Instatement Of The 3rd Battalion Of The Royal Anglian Regiment

EDM number 1866 in 2003-04, proposed by Bob Russell on 03/11/2004.

That this House applauds the exemplary recruitment record of the Royal Anglian Regiment, which was created from several former historic county regiments representing Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Huntingdonshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Rutland and Suffolk; notes that the population of these counties is greater than that of Scotland and Yorkshire; further notes that the Royal Anglian Regiment already forms an integral part of the Government's proposals to establish regional regiments of three battalions elsewhere in the United Kingdom; believes that the re-instatement of the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Anglian Regiment would be fully in accord with the proposed new structure; and therefore calls on the Secretary of State for Defence to re-instate the 3rd Battalion.

This motion has been signed by a total of 10 MPs.
