Woodward Diesel Systems

EDM number 1910 in 2003-04, proposed by Nigel Jones on 11/11/2004.

That this House regrets the announcement of the closure of Woodward Diesel systems in Cheltenham with the loss of 160 jobs; notes the decision to move the company's operations to Germany and the USA and the substantial loss of revenue to the Treasury; urges the company to provide all assistance necessary to the employees who will lose their jobs, including generous redundancy packages and administrative help and retraining to find new work; deplores the growing trend of companies relocating overseas; and invites the Government to review its employment policies to provide a level playing field for employers in the United Kingdom to enable them to compete on equal terms with competitors abroad.
