The Net Effect Report And Bycatch Fishing
EDM number 547 in 2003-04, proposed by Alan Meale on 04/02/2004.
That this House believes that one of the biggest threats to ocean ecosystems is destructive and unsustainable fishing practices, which include the incidental capture, or bycatch of non-target species such as mammals, birds, turtles, fish and other marine species; commends the recent excellent report, The Net Effect, prepared by the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society for the environmental campaign organisation Green Peace; and calls upon the Government to pursue as a matter of policy the strongest possible measures in EU regulations against such wanton and unnecessary destruction.
This motion has been signed by a total of 32 MPs.
