Arbroath Smokie

EDM number 740 in 2003-04, proposed by Mike Weir on 02/03/2004.

That this House welcomes the granting of protected geographic indication status to the Arbroath smokie; notes that this is the first fish-based Scottish product protected under the scheme, and welcomes the boost this will give both to the Scottish fishing industry and smokie producers in Arbroath; and congratulates everyone involved in the campaign to protect this unique delicacy from imitations and hopes that many other areas will take similar action to protect our unique local and regional foods.

This motion has been signed by a total of 24 MPs.
