Abolition Of Death Penalty In Senegal
EDM number 627 in 2004-05, proposed by Michael Moore on 01/02/2005.
That this House welcomes Senegal's decision to abolish the death penalty; notes that although Senegal had been abolitionist in practice since 1967, the Abolition Act is another step forward towards achieving the objectives of the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and urges Senegal to sign the protocol; further notes that Senegal is only the fourth country of the 15 member states of the Economic Community of West African States to outlaw capital punishment; and joins Amnesty International in urging other countries in West Africa to follow Senegal's example.
