Energy Review And Coal

EDM number 1249 in 2005-06, proposed by Jim Sheridan on 13/12/2005.

That this House considers global warming to be the greatest challenge facing mankind and something the forthcoming energy review must take account of when deciding the UK's future energy mix; believes that the energy economy must be diverse, flexible and secure and in this context is of the view that electricity generation using clean coal technology with carbon capture will meet strict environmental standards and, through technology transfer to the world's developing economies, provide the most significant means of reducing global carbon dioxide emissions; and calls on the Government to take immediate steps to ensure that the UK coal industry can continue to contribute to maintaining security of supply in a balanced energy portfolio.
