India National Day

EDM number 1460 in 2005-06, proposed by Nigel Evans on 24/01/2006.

That this House notes that India's national day is on 26th January; recognises the significance of this day for the whole of India; salutes the close cultural and economic ties that continue to exist between the United Kingdom and India; further notes that India is the largest democracy in the world and in the next 30 years is set to become the largest country and second largest economy in the world; further recognises the growing importance of Indian businesses in diverse areas such as pharmaceuticals, healthcare, manufacturing and information technology; and calls on the Government to maintain and increase the links between the UK and India.
