Morphou, Cyprus

EDM number 1547 in 2005-06, proposed by Andrew Dismore on 01/02/2006.

That this House expresses its extreme concern at the decision reported in the Kibris newspaper, that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has declared occupied Morphou as a tourist area and intends to develop an area of 3,000 donums for this purpose; expresses further concern at the announcement that the TRNC intends to encourage further Turkish settlers in this area by distributing to them 1,500 donums of Greek Cypriot owned land; believes that these unwelcome plans will make the possibility of a fair and just settlement in Cyprus even more difficult; and calls on the TRNC to cancel these measures.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs, 3 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
