CARER'S ALLOWANCE

EDM number 2342 in 2005-06, proposed by Willie Rennie on 12/06/2006.

That this House welcomes the income support that carer's allowance provides for many of the UK's six million carers; notes with concern that those who lose a spouse and become entitled to bereavement allowance lose entitlement to carer's allowance; believes that, while carer's allowance is intended to replace the foregone income of the carer, bereavement allowance is intended to replace the lost income previously provided by the deceased; and calls on the Government to consider allowing bereaved carers to continue receiving carer's allowance.

This motion has been signed by a total of 39 MPs.
