Independence Of The Judiciary

EDM number 2397 in 2005-06, proposed by Keith Vaz on 19/06/2006.

That this House notes with regret that judges and the judicial system have become the target of unjustified criticism; agrees with the Leader of the House that British judges hold a reputation for fairness and knowledge of the law that is world class; and believes that the responsibility for setting strict, unambiguous and appropriate guidelines for the punishment of serious offenders lies with the Government and Parliament.

This motion has been signed by a total of 25 MPs.
