Wimbledon Prize Money

EDM number 2446 in 2005-06, proposed by Eleanor Laing on 26/06/2006.

That this House notes that women tennis players at Wimbledon are paid significantly less in prize money than their male counterparts; further notes that women players are willing and able to play the same number of sets as men; further notes that the All England Club and the Lawn Tennis Association have made some progress in narrowing the gap in recent years but considers that equality is an important principle; and urges the Wimbledon authorities to recognise that women tennis players should be rewarded equally to their male counterparts.

This motion has been signed by a total of 60 MPs.
