Pension Protection Fund
EDM number 2609 in 2005-06, proposed by Fraser Kemp on 19/07/2006.
That this House welcomes the decision by the Pension Protection Fund to begin an assessment of the Turner and Newall pension scheme, especially for the many hundreds of workers who were employed at the Washington Chemical Company in Houghton and Washington East constituency and the thousands employed throughout the United Kingdom; notes that for those who retired at 65 years, it should mean 100 per cent. of pension entitlement will be paid and for those yet to retire or who did so early, the figure should be 90 per cent.; further notes that over 35,000 members of the pension scheme deserve the support, protection and security that they will receive at the Pension Protection Fund levels of compensation; and congratulates the Labour Government for setting up the Pension Protection scheme to help millions who through no fault of their own lost their pensions.
