Aphasia Support
EDM number 2800 in 2005-06, proposed by Phil Willis on 18/10/2006.
That this House commends the work of groups such as Speakability and Aphasia Now in their work supporting the 250,000 people with aphasia in the UK; notes that much of the support for people with stroke or accident-induced communication difficulties comes from voluntary organisations; urges the Government to look at implementing a multi-disciplinary approach to aphasia treatment, bringing together the work of speech and language therapists, social workers, neurologists and physicians to facilitate the effective co-ordination of support for people with aphasia; and congratulates the voluntary organisations involved for the success of their Speak about Aphasia month in June, and encourages them to continue their excellent work making the public aware and sensitive to the differing needs of people with aphasia.
