That this House congratulates the National Farmers Union (NFU) for its Making Green Ground environmental campaign, which encourages the farmers and growers of England and Wales to prioritise sound environmental conservation and stewardship; believes that farmers and growers are stewards of the environment and cultural heritage in rural areas; recognises that a clean and biodiverse environment is vital for sustainable agriculture in the UK; notes the success of agri-environment schemes such as Tir Gofal and Countryside Stewardship in securing the long term commitment of farmers to environmental conservation; welcomes the introduction of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Environment Stewardship Scheme; and urges the Government to place continued emphasis on sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship in the future.
