Smoking Legislation For Membership Clubs
EDM number 685 in 2005-06, proposed by Bob Spink on 10/10/2005.
That this House welcomes the Government's consultation on legislation to provide smoke-free environments; supports the intention to exempt membership clubs which generally have done a good job of listening to and balancing varying views of members in this sensitive area; believes that the proposal to enshrine a mandatory annual ballot on the issue is needlessly bureaucratic and expensive; and calls on the Government to drop the ballot in favour of an annual review at the club's Annual General Meeting which would better meet the Government's general deregulation objectives.
This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs.
