Asian Earthquake Disaster

EDM number 709 in 2005-06, proposed by Roger Godsiff on 10/10/2005.

That this House views with the gravest concern the scale of the human tragedy that is now unfolding in terms of both dead and injured following the earthquake on 8th October in Pakistan and India; notes that the worst hit city was Muzaffarabad where the epicentre of the earthquake occurred and that estimates of those killed are currently in excess of 30,000; extends sincerest condolences to the relatives and friends of those killed and injured; and calls on the Government to respond speedily to requests for financial and physical assistance and to use its Presidency of the European Union to co-ordinate both immediate relief and long-term reconstruction of the devastated areas.

This motion has been signed by a total of 90 MPs.
