Catalonia

EDM number 953 in 2005-06, proposed by Pete Wishart on 03/11/2005.

That this House welcomes the vote in the Spanish Parliament which has approved proposals to grant greater autonomy to Catalonia; notes that Catalonia is now to be acknowledged as a nation and will be given the right to control taxation and change laws passed by Parliament; believes that this is part of a process which will eventually lead to Catalonian independence and is a welcome reminder that constitutional settlements are not set in stone; believes that the Scottish Parliament has a lot to learn from Catalonia and that this welcome development should encourage the calls for further powers for the Scottish Parliament particularly in relation to fiscal autonomy; and looks forward to the day when the independent nations of Catalonia and Scotland will sit together at the top table of the European Union.

This motion has been signed by a total of 13 MPs.
