Withdrawal Of Knighthood From Robert Mugabe

EDM number 1175 in 2006-07, proposed by Daniel Kawczynski on 20/03/2007.

That this House is concerned by the Foreign Secretary's lack of action in calling for the withdrawal of the honorary Knighthood of Robert Mugabe; further notes that during Foreign Office questions on 20th March she intimated that this was not a priority for her Department; regrets such an attitude; and notes that in the past knighthoods have been withdrawn from despots like Nicolai Ceausescu in December 1989, a week before his downfall, and that such a move helped the movement to oust him from power as it showed a clear change of policy towards the rulers concerned.

This motion has been signed by a total of 51 MPs.
