Mile End And Bethnal Green Tube Derailment

EDM number 1862 in 2006-07, proposed by George Galloway on 09/07/2007.

That this House expresses its deep gratitude to the London Underground staff, fire and ambulance crews, and the police who swiftly and professionally evacuated passengers trapped in the Central Line tube derailment in Tower Hamlets; believes that this serious incident underscores the need for the transport and emergency services to be adequately staffed rather than to face job losses; further believes that the failure to stow away the object that caused the derailment is connected to the chaos wrought by the privatisation of the Tube infrastructure under the public private partnership scheme; and calls for the maintenance and renewal contracts on the Tube to be brought back in-house so as to end the fragmentation of responsibility that has proved so deadly on the mainline railway.

This motion has been signed by a total of 19 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
