Boeing 787 Dreamliner

EDM number 1875 in 2006-07, proposed by David Marshall on 09/07/2007.

That this House congratulates the Boeing company on the successful roll-out of the new 787 Dreamliner on 8th July 2007; notes that almost 700 of these aircraft have already been ordered by 47 customers and believes that it will become the most successful aircraft ever; further notes that it is made of composite materials, making it lighter and quieter, that it will use 20 per cent. less fuel and produce 20 per cent. fewer carbon dioxide emissions than most comparable aircraft and that it will make a major contribution to delivering sustainable aviation growth; welcomes the fact that the Rolls Royce Trent 1000 is the launch engine, that over 500 of these engines have been ordered already, that it is the most environmentally friendly engine ever made by Rolls Royce and that when the engine is fitted to the Dreamliner 25 per cent. by value of the aircraft is British; further notes that Boeing spends up to three billion US dollars per annum in the UK on more than 250 supplier sites; and welcomes Boeing's continuing investment in many thousands of high tech, high skilled jobs throughout the UK.
