Imminent Execution Of Rizana Nafeek

EDM number 1926 in 2006-07, proposed by Chris Mullin on 17/07/2007.

That this House is deeply concerned about the imminent execution by beheading of Rizana Nafeek, a teenage Sri Lankan national in Saudi Arabia found guilty of murdering a baby; notes that she protests her innocence; further notes that her conviction is based on an alleged confession in police custody and that she had no lawyer to represent her at trial; calls upon the government of Saudi Arabia to review her case as a matter of urgency; deplores the imposition of the death sentence on a defendant who was reportedly a minor at the time of the alleged crime, in contravention of an international prohibition on the execution of child offenders; and believes that the execution of this young woman will bring shame upon Saudi Arabia.

This motion has been signed by a total of 48 MPs.
