Save The Rhino International

EDM number 269 in 2006-07, proposed by Andrew Rosindell on 23/11/2006.

That this House commends the efforts of British charity Save the Rhino International and the dedicated team of conservationists, park wardens, game ranges and patrol guards who work tirelessly in helping to protect this most endangered of species from the continued threat of illegal poaching and snaring; further condemns the illegal trade in and continued use of rhinoceros horn for traditional medicines in Asia and, in particular, China; recognises the important environmental education programmes that teach children and adults about the importance of preserving natural resources in addition to addressing human-wildlife conflict issues and notes the contribution that Save the Rhino International makes to such programmes; and additionally notes that four of the five species of rhinoceros are critically endangered and that only with continued financial aid and support will these animals survive long enough for future generations to marvel at their majesty.
