Animals In Medical Research
EDM number 283 in 2006-07, proposed by James Paice on 23/11/2006.
That this House is concerned about any unnecessary suffering of animals and insists on the toughest possible regulation of medical research involving animals; believes that such research should only and exceptionally be conducted where no other effective options are available; accepts that, in the absence of international agreement on the issue, banning experiments in this country would not reduce animal suffering, but rather lead to more testing in countries where less rigorous regulations exist; and fully supports the replacement of animal use, the reduction of the number of animals used, and the refinement of the procedures involved to minimise suffering.
