Wild Bird Trade
EDM number 386 in 2006-07, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 04/12/2006.
That this House welcomes the announcement by the Prime Minister that the UK Government will press other EU member states to extend the ban on the commercial importation of wild birds; recognises that more than 2,600 species have been involved in domestic or international trade and are subject to extreme cruelty in the process; further notes that the current temporary ban needs to be extended indefinitely in order to combat this trade; and urges the UK Government to do all it can to achieve an EU-wide ban in order to make a significant step towards protecting wild birds, many of which are endangered species.
