Education In Conflict States

EDM number 445 in 2006-07, proposed by Sally Keeble on 07/12/2006.

That this House welcomes commitments made by the Government to increased funding and support for countries to meet the Millennium Development Goal of universal primary education by 2015; notes with concern that 38 million of the 77 million children still missing out on primary school education are in conflict-affected fragile states; welcomes Save the Children's global Rewrite the Future campaign, which calls on the international community to provide an extra $5.8 billion per year to education in conflict-affected fragile states; calls on the Department for International Development to ensure that 50 per cent. of new education commitments are for conflict-affected fragile states; and calls for education to be included within the first phase in all humanitarian responses.

This motion has been signed by a total of 67 MPs.
