Olympic Construction Jobs

EDM number 1076 in 2007-08, proposed by Diane Abbott on 28/02/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Employment, Industry and Sports.

That this House is concerned that the number of people from the five Olympic boroughs employed on the Olympic site is low; notes that the target given by the Olympic Delivery Authority is to employ only 10 to 15 per cent. of people from the five host boroughs on the Olympic Park construction workforce; further notes that this aim for unemployed people is only 7 per cent.; highlights the fact that the five Olympic boroughs suffer from some of the worst unemployment rates in the country; believes that in order for the Government to fulfil the promises that were made regarding the employment benefits of the Olympics these official targets should be much higher; and calls on the Olympic Delivery Authority and other stakeholders to seriously consider raising these targets.
