Social Responsibility Of Energy Suppliers

EDM number 1920 in 2007-08, proposed by Desmond Turner on 30/06/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Consumers, Financial services, Incomes and poverty, Industry and Utilities.

That this House congratulates the Government on its initiative to create a gateway fund for the public to access debt advice; welcomes the financial services industry's commitment to the creation of the fund; asks that the Government explains why the power supply companies, to whom many people are in debt, are not supporting this fund; and insists that they make a substantial financial commitment from their current extremely high levels of profits to the fund, failing which a windfall tax should be very seriously considered.

This motion has been signed by a total of 56 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
