Memorial For Recipients Of The George Cross And Victoria Cross

EDM number 335 in 2007-08, proposed by Mark Field on 21/11/2007.
Categorised under the topics of Armed forces, Armed forces welfare, Cultural heritage and Military operations.

That this House supports the Downing Street petition for a combined high profile memorial for recipients of the George Cross and Victoria Cross; notes the cross-party support such a memorial has already received, as recorded on the related Facebook website; recalls the backing it has further gained from all ranks of service personnel, including a former Chief of Defence staff; believes that a more public monument would provide an iconic reminder of selfless action in an age desperately seeking role models; reflects upon the impact of the inspirational monuments in Washington DC such as the Korean War memorial; and suggests that one place worthy of consideration to honour society's heroes in both peace and war may be the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square.

This motion has been signed by a total of 33 MPs.
