Rail Operators And Thurrock Customers

EDM number 864 in 2007-08, proposed by Andrew Mackinlay on 04/02/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Consumers and Railways.

That this House deplores the action of the operators of the c2c rail service who, following the most recent fares increase, have maintained the daily fare rate from the Chafford Hundred and Grays stations at the same tariff, but have perversely introduced a differential of £1.80 to the tariff in respect of weekly fares; considers that this is unreasonable and confusing to customers, and has the potential to embarrass and entrap decent fare paying customers with fares inspectors; considers that it is indicative of a sloppy and insensitive approach by those who make decisions at c2c; and urges an urgent review of these particular tariffs and an assurance that neither fare inspectors nor customers will face arguments or embarrassment in the interim.
